My cousin Darach is a bit of a rockstar. He plays electric guitar, most notably with the funk rock band Republic of Loose, and is currently doing a doctorate in jazz guitar. He been really supportive of my music, giving me advice and loaning me gear, so I always meant to dedicate a tune to him sometime. One of his PhD assignments was analysing a Beethoven string quartet; we had a great chat about it, which inspired me to listen to the piece on Youtube. The next morning, I woke up with a new melodic idea in my head, which I developed into this tune. Seeing as this piece was inspired by Darach’s dedication to his course, plus my appreciation of his kindness, ‘Darach’s Dedication’ was the perfect title!
