Sarah’s Slipjig

The morning that my close friend Sarah went into hospital for an operation, I woke up with this tune in my head. The original version of the tune has phrases of irregular length – the first, second and third phrases are 4 beats long, but the fourth phrase is only 3 beats long. I then adapted the melody so all phrases were 3 beats long, which converts the tune into a slipjig rhythm. The message I wanted to express with this tune is that all things are beautiful in their original form, no matter how unusual; and if a part of us is removed, we’re still beautiful, and may even be inspired to dancing!!
